Fadilah skillfully evades while Karim fumbles...

PBB denies 'RM10 mil cybertrooper fund' claim
by Leven Woon Zheng Yang

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) has brushed off a claim that a RM10 million cyber-war fund has been set up by Sarawak BN to recruit bloggers to attack the opposition.

Asajaya assemblyman Karim Hamzah and Petra Jaya MP Fadilah Yusof, whose names were in a web posting, both denied the existence of any such fund.

“There is no such thing. These are complete lies,” were their similar responses when contacted today.

Fadilah even challenged the whistleblowers to name every blogger who has been recruited.

Several Sarawak websites had recently published unattributed reports stating that Karim and Fadilah are offering RM5,000 monthly to “Sarawakians with journalistic instinct” to work for the state government.

According to the posting, those shortlisted are to be trained by New Straits Times, The Malay Mail and Utusan Malaysia at Pusat Latihan Umno in Janda Baik, Pahang.

“Every blogger is entitled to a RM30,000 grant to set up their blog...,” it further claims.

Karim scoffed at the notion that such information would even be leaked via the Internet.

“Even though we have a strategy, we will keep it confidential. You don't reveal your trump card to your opponents,” he said.

Asked how the posting could have come about, he replied cryptically: “What can we do? Now everyone can use the cyber world to dump in information.”

'No interview with radio station'

Karim also rubbished a columnist's claim in Malaysiakini that he had told shortwave station Radio Free Sarawak it is only “fair” that Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud should accumulate wealth in public office.

“I have never spoken to Radio Free Sarawak before. (The radio station) is hopeless,” he claimed.

Among other comments, he had reportedly said: “He (Taib, left) has been in power for the last 40 years… he has been open to a lot of opportunities, whereby his children also can participate in business, and then, using the kind of networking that they can have, and then build up their riches.”

Radio Free Sarawak could not be reached for comment.

  1. There're many politicians in Malaysia involved in politic more than 40 years ago. Mahathir and his family also at once stage happened to be on the top and glorious on politic of Malaysia, but we didn't observed and see them become billionaire as Taib family.

  2. I guess YB Karim seems to be commenting mostly based on his moral principle as a very fine student of PBB classic and not to mention serving the Master to the utmost best! I'm not surprised if given the freedom to speak his heart out loud...he could be one of the Sarawak UMNO's potential leader in the near future.

Most (almost all) Sarawak Malays want to be at the steering wheel when the boat is smooth sailing. My advise, don't wait till others tell us to do what is morally right otherwise the Sarawak Malays will always be forever waiting for the Q.

  3. Yeah...I heard him throwing his personal opinion and also on behalf of his Big Boss! When asked about his Boss multi-billion skandal, he occasionally choked and fumbled..Comeonlah!! YB. As you said there are limitation to everything? So.,? when will you stop trying to defend someone who don't even bother to defend himself? It will only make a fool of yourself because the whole world already knows The Story. No amount of legalistic jargon can wipe your moral conscience clean when you stand before Allah. So don't trade your heavenly conscience just for the sake of crumbs thrown from your Boss dining table. It's ok to express your personal opinion but when ask to comment about your Big Boss,....just say NO COMMENT!! I'm sure he will not demerit you?? Cheer up! YB..
