1Malaysia community event a good place to disseminate info — Deputy minister
Borneo Post November 26, 2012, Monday
KUCHING: The 1Malaysia community event is a good platform to disseminate reliable information to update the people.
In view of technological advancement where information can be obtained almost instantly, unverified and biased information would tip the scales to the detriment of our nation’s peace and solidarity.
“That is why it is important for leaders from the top to grassroots levels to be constantly updated and informed by their peers,” said Deputy minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Fadillah Yusuf yesterday.
Speaking during the launch of the 1Malaysia Community event at Taman Malihah multipurpose hall, Fadillah also said unity is the strength of our nation, which should be safeguarded at all costs.
For the nation to progress further, Fadillah, who is also Petra Jaya MP, added that positive values within the community must go beyond the developments of infrastructure.
“We must stay united, able to respect each other and willing to work together with everyone regardless of their race and background,” said Fadillah.
On another note, Fadillah said the 1Malaysia community event is to prepare the community to face global challenges and heightened their response towards the government’s transformation programme.
The 1Malaysia Community event, which is scattered throughout 234 residential and village areas in the state, should also identify the different segments of the community and try to garner their support, he said.
Meanwhile, the event yesterday saw the participation of Taman Allamanda Indah, Taman Malihah and Kolong 1 residents.
Among the activities held were a futsal competition and colouring competition.
Setting up booths during the event were several agencies including the Sarawak Health Department that conducted free health checks.
