YB Datuk Fadilah Yusuf ready to help state establish science park

KUCHING: Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti) is ready to help the state set up its science park.
Deputy Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof said Mosti was aware of the state’s plan to set up the park and had worked on its details.
“Whenever the state wants the details, we are ever ready to help them. As far as Mosti is concerned, we are prepared to help in terms of advise and consultation and whatever assistance required by the state,” he told reporters at his Hari Raya open house here yesterday.
Fadillah said the ministry had the experience to manage science or technology park.
He said there were a few agencies under the ministry which were very much involved in innovation in terms of research and product development.
Fadillah said the proposed state science park has the poten-tial to bring various benefits to the local community and environment.
He said one of the state’s potentials that should make it to the science park was biodiversity.
“Sarawak is the only state that has formed a Biodiversity Centre with more than 2,000 specimens ready to go to the market.
“What we need to do is to intensify the research and development so that it can be transformed into something commercial or something that can benefit the community,” he said.
He said the state should also focus on biomass.
There would be vast reserve of biodiversity and development activities within the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy area that would result in biomass, he said, adding that biomass was not only for local gas production but also for export.
“Europe needs biodiesel and it needs the source to produce it. What we can do is provide the source,” he said.
