November 29, 2011, Tuesday

DAP bercakap memang senang : Yang Berhormat Datuk Fadilah Yusuf

Downsizing civil service just a talk

KUCHING: DAP’s plan to downsize the civil service if Pakatan takes over the government as just a talk without taking into account all aspects.

“Talk is easy.If we want to reduce, will it be good for the country?” Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Haji Fadillah Yusof commented yesterday.

Fadillah, who is also Petra Jaya Member of Parliament said the BN Government has a very comprehensive approach in implementing its programme; that is why it has its own transformation programme.

“ T h e G o v e r n m e n t Trans format ion Programme (GTP) is a very comprehensive programme involving all sectors including how to improve our public service. It is not just to reduce but more important is how to improve,” he said.

Fadillah said this when met by the media after the distribution of meat in conjunction with Hari Raya Korban at Surau Darul Ibadat, Jalan Astana, Petra Jaya here yesterday.

The event was jointly organised by Astana Lot Neighbourhood Watch (HRT) committee, the Surau Darul Ibadat committee, N.7 Samariang’s KEMAS and the Muslim staff of Sarawak Rivers Board.

Fadillah said downsizing the number of staff in the public service would not necessarily mean bringing improvement.

“Although it might be more from the aspect of expenditure, at the same time our approach is far different from the DAP’s approach that is to reduce by half by the total number of public servants.

“I think we have a right approach, which they have no knowledge about,” Fadillah added when met by New Sarawak Tribune.

Because of that, the commitment of BN government is to see through from approach of transformation plan that is very comprehensive taking into account the views of all parties including the private sector, civil servants and the community at large and how we can find the best in providing service to the rakyat, that is our approach,” he said.
