MIRI: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) veterans here yesterday were urged to support the entry of Umno into Sarawak.
Nordin Yussof, a former PBB Senadin branch Youth chief and also the ex-information chief of the branch, hoped members of PBB would not waste their time and energy against the move by JPUNS (Jawatankuasa Penaja Umno Negeri Sarawak) to bring in Umno.
“JPUNS claims it has more than 70,000 members throughout the state, and it is time for us to join them,” said Nordin, who is the village chief of Kampung Muhibbah in Kuala Baram near here.
“Abide by the PM’s decision on the matter in the interest of the Malays and other Bumiputera communities in Sarawak,” he said when welcoming Najib’s stand on the matter as Umno president.
He said there was a need for Umno in Sarawak as PBB no longer able to lead the state BN without Umno interference.
“I express my gratitude to the PM for indicating that there was a need for Umno and other peninsula-based parties in the state.
He also asked Umno supporters in Pujut and Kampung Haji Wahed here to put up more Umno flags in their villages.
Another PBB veteran here Ahmad Lamat said PBB and other BN component parties should stop confusing the people in the state by portraying Umno leaders in the peninsula had not given their blessing for the entry of the party into the state.
He believed Najib’s assurance would clear the air once and for all.
